Currently, Coinbase is only accessible on desktop for DESK. Coinbase’s desktop wallet integration allows users to connect to the Coinbase browser extension or connect by scanning a QR code with the Coinbase Wallet mobile app.
To access either connection method, first select the “Connect Wallet” button found under your CoinDesk balance. You’ll be presented with the desktop wallet connection options (MetaMask, Coinbase and Wallet Connect). Select the Coinbase option.
While our wallet functionality is in beta, you’ll see a screen detailing this distinction and encouraging readers to share their experience with us as we continue to iterate toward moving out of beta. If you’ve used other Web3 platforms, you’ll most likely find the current experience familiar, connecting your wallet and transferring your balance successfully without much guidance.
If you’re new to Web3 and/or want a bit of help, select “View Connection Tips” to access step-by-step instructions and troubleshooting solutions. You can always find this and other educational content on the DESK EDU page. (If you have the time, we ask that you also visit our Help Center and submit a request using the hyperlink in the top, right-hand corner.)
To proceed with connecting your wallet, select “Continue.”
If you primarily use your Coinbase Wallet on your phone we recommend connecting by scanning the QR code with the Coinbase Wallet app. Just open the Coinbase Wallet on your mobile device. In the top-right corner there’s a box icon. Tap the icon to load the QR Scanner. When the QR code is scanned, you’ll receive a notification informing you that “You’re connected to wagmi.sh.” When you select “Done” your DESK Hub will update to display a connected state. You will only be present with this connection option if you do not have the Coinbase Wallet extension installed on your browser.
If you have the Coinbase Wallet extension installed, you’ll automatically be redirected to a Coinbase window, where you’ll be prompted to approve the connection. Just press “Connect” and you’ll be redirected to Coinbase after your Coinbase Wallet is connected.
Configuring your Coinbase Wallet for use with DESK
Before you’ll be able to see DESK in your Coinbase Wallet or use it in the CoinDesk ecosystem, you’ll need to switch over to the Polygon Network. To do so you need to first open the browser by selecting the Coinbase icon wherever your browser displays extensions.
At the bottom is a navigation bar. Select the “Settings” gear icon, which is the furthest option to the right. Next, select “Networks” found at the very bottom of the page. On the next page, either select Polygon or scroll to find it at the bottom of the list. Select Polygon by clicking the three dots on the far-right side of the button. Select “Save” to switch over to the Polygon network. If you have DESK in your wallet, it will appear right away. If not, it will appear after you transfer.
Now you’re all set to use your tokens in the DESK ecosystem.
